Prove Your Worth
Master Shen does not take on just any student, you know. You must prove yourself in a test of skill against another hopeful student. Show no mercy and defeat your opponent to ensure your selection into the Crane School. Master Shen takes a liking to those who show both a talent for above-average techniques and a tendency for excessive violence.

After realizing he had a lot more potential than he thought, John Smith sought out a teacher who could help him. Early in the morning, John grabbed his fan-gifted Ki Gauntlet, a hoodie to conceal his identity, and he set out. He used another entrance to his apartment complex and left for the legendary Crane School.
By the time he arrived, it was about 7:30 AM. Master Shen was out in the garden with some of his students, training them as he does. When he noticed John Smith approaching, hood up, he knew the man wanted some training. Shen held a hand up, signaling for his students to take a break, "Greetings. I assume you are here for training, yes?"
John Smith blankly looked around the Crane School. It was kind of underwhelming, he was expecting something a lot more flashy and interesting. He turned his attention to the Master and answered, "Yes."
"Very well, but before I can train you," The master motioned for one of his students, who approached and bowed, "You need to prove your worth. If you defeat my newest pupil in battle, only then will I give you training." John Smith looked the student up and down. The guy was wearing a white martial arts gi, had his hands wrapped, and looked like he knew what he was doing. The pupil gave John a devilish grin, hopping around on his feet to loosen up. The student was obviously ready to fight, maybe even to get his hands dirty.
The student started talking, trying to intimidate John Smith or something, but the celebrity was not focused on his words. He was too busy sizing up the other students, seeing if there was anybody interesting in this particular group. One of them had a third eye on his forehead, which probably would have been strange to an ordinary person, but nothing was strange to John any more. The student side stepped, getting in the way of the other students. He was still talking, but as soon as Shen rose his hand the opponent stopped.
As the master dropped his hand, signaling the beginning of the fight, the student started strafing to the side, throwing some punches at the air to show John he was all business. John Smith just watched blankly as his opponent made a fool of himself, still waiting for him to make the first move. The pupil was throwing out a bunch of combos; jab, jab, uppercut; jab, feint, jab, swing; etc. John took a look at his watch to see how long this was going to go on for. When John took his eyes off his opponent, the guy shouted out, "You left yourself open!"
He moved in, trying to connect a punch with John's nose, but John Smith was just a little bit faster. Without even looking, John swung his fist upwards, making contact with his opponent's chin. The force behind the hit sent him flying into the air, landing on the ground with a loud snap. As the pupil squirmed around on the ground, clenching his ankle in obvious pain, John looked down with his usual blank expression, "Sorry," Master Shen approached John Smith, amazed at his easy victory.
"Your power is impeccable, and you are not flashy whatsoever," The master complimented, "Welcome to the Crane School!" The rest of the students applauded, but it did not sound very celebratory.
