Reku found himself in a cell made out of transparent, metallic like material. The inside was coated with an electric field that would shock the prisoner should he or she touch it. He had power level dampening arm and leg braces, making him no stronger than the average human. The Earth’s law Enforcement caught him off guard this time, as he didn’t even know they were following him until he heard an explosion and saw a flash of light. Next thing he knew, he was in a box. The Warden had come by earlier, saying that their had been an order that came directly from the government. Reku was not only denied trial due to the overwhelming amount of evidence, but was sentenced to a live, televised execution for the attempted assassination of Skylar. The Warden had gone on to say that Reku had about 48 hours to live. Due to the unavailability of a clock or any tool that was used to measure time, the half-saiyan didn’t know that 46 hours had already passed. He had two hours to live.
It was broadcasted all over the news. At 1 PM at the front of the King’s Castle, Reku would be faced with a ten man firing squad. With his PL dampening braces still on, he would surely be killed. The Half-Saiyan sat in the middle of the box, not certain about what he could do.
Shadic PL: 101,200 (Indetectable Trait) Super Penitentiary; Earth Monday 11:15 Teleport Seal: A few miles north of the prison
"Y'know, for a super high security prison, this place is a pretty nice." Shadic said to the guard escorting him as they walked through an automated revolving door into the holding chambers.
"Yeah, well, when as much of the government's funding goes into places like this as it does, I'd hope it's nice," The guard said as he led Shadic to where he wanted to go, "Sure as hell beats the dump I used to work at. Those criminals were a lot less scary but, man, was that place a mess. Hey John,"
One of the prisoners looked up from his newspaper and nodded towards the guard. Shadic figured he was a regular. "Never thought I'd actually need to, like, enter one of these places. But I guess that's what happens when your friend goes off the deep end and gets tangled up in Political Warfare."
The guard chuckled as if it was a regular event and motioned towards a heavy metal door. "You want somebody in there to monitor you guys? In case something happens?"
Shadic shook his head, "Nah, I'm good. Trust me, I'm able to take care of myself."
It was clear the guard had no idea who Shadic was, which made things a lot easier. He was not visiting Reku as a final goodbye or anything, this was a heist and it was going to succeed. Operation: Extract Reku. He may have worked for the government now, albeit loosely, but Reku was still one of his friends. He could not allow him to just die, even if his crime was bad. In fairness, it was only an attempted assassination, he didn't actually succeed.
Prior to even entering the prison, Shadic set up a plan. Using his ki decoys, the clone would enter and have a chat with Reku while the real deal Shadic would try his hand at joining the firing squad. Since he was apparently part of the Earth Government, he was going to use that to whatever advantage he could. Real Shadic would replace one of the members of the firing squad and go from there. It was a big shabang, it was going to be great.
Shadic walked through the metal door and looked around. It wasn't colorful, but the place was sanitary for sure. And, obviously, there was Reku, locked up in a specialized cell to make sure he didn't do anything crazy, like break out and kill people.
"Well, well, well, you know what they say. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Except, you aren't doing any time, you're just dying." There were a few chairs lining the wall, so he grabbed one and pulled it close to the containment box.
The hybrid examined his friend's predicament and laughed, "They got you good, didn't they?"
Reku heard footsteps approaching and saw a shadow coming his way. Is this it? Are they going to slaughter me now? He wondered. He could feel his heartbeat getting heavier and heavier as he heard the steps get louder and louder as they got closer. He felt like he was about to have a heart attack when suddenly he realized, it was Shadic. Letting out an enormous sigh of relief in response to his friend’s greeting. He chuckled before answering him back. ”Yeah, you know it. How much time do I have left? Eleven hours? Nine?" He asked, not having a time update in a while. He figured not too much time could’ve passed, though he did fall asleep a couple of times while he was in the prison.
"Ha ha! No. Uh, let's see..." Shadic, not wearing any sort of timepiece, had to think for a second to pinpoint the time, "I got here around 11ish, talked to the guards for a bit - good people, might I add - and then was led to you. So, if I had to guess, I'd say it's around eleven ten-ish. Maybe eleven fifteen. Somewhere around there, yeah."
He looked around to make sure nobody was nearby before talking again a few short moments later, "I got a plan to get you out, if you want to get out that is. Wanna hear it?" Ever since hearing about the public execution, by firing squad of all things, of Reku, Shadic had been thinking of a plan. This one was almost sure to work. Plus, not only would it free Reku, but it would keep Shadic in good standing with the government as well. It was a win-win-lose (the lose being the government since Reku would be free again, but, oops, what can ya do, yknow?)
Reku was left dumbfounded by what Shadic told him. “That tells me absolutely nothing. I have no idea what time it was when I got in here to begin with. How much time do I left until I, you know, D- Wait. You’re going to bust me out?" He asked. He couldn’t help but feel surprised. ”I thought you were the “goody two shoes” type of guy? What happened? Azuki dumped you already?" He teased, raising an eyebrow as he did so.
Reku lost his sense of time, it seemed, in his captivity. Understandable. Might be a violation of code to not include a clock in the room with the prisoners on death row, Shadic noted. Reku was surprised at Shadic's willingness to free him from inevitable death, although the statements he made were a bit odd to say the least.
"First of all, that is irrelevant to the topic at hand," He said in regard to Reku's last question, "Second, I have very little part in this prison break, okay? I am just... seeing what all I can do with my new job thing, that's all. Now do you want to know the plan or not?"
They were on a time crunch, so Shadic was ready to explain his plan as fast as possible while still hitting all the major points. Really, Reku only had one duty during the whole thing, so it shouldn't be too bad.
“Just seeing what you can do huh? Sure." Reku replied sarcastically, having a smirk on his face. He focused his attention back on the plan. ”Alright. What’s the plan?" He asked, allowing the smirk to disappear off of his face as he became serious once again. He wondered if Shadic had a good plan, or if he had even made one before. Looking back, Reku didn’t seem to be able to remember many instances where Shadic was the brains behind the operations.
"I am not too sure what you're smiling about, this is literally a matter of life and death!" Reku decided he would finally listen to the plan.
Shadic's face lit up as he finally got to explain what was happening, "Cool, okay. So before I came in here I did some prepatory things to ensure I could actually pull this off. To start, I'm just a clone. Something goes wrong here, somehow, I'll be poof gonezo, just like that. The real me is currently using his new government persuasion powers to convince the warden to allow him to be a part of the firing squad. Then, when you get aimed at, he's gonna have an 'oh no' moment and his gun is gonna be not working. Darn, what a shame. Guess we gotta wait a few minutes until he gets a new gun.
"During those few minutes, he and I will swap places, meaning I - the clone - will become part of the firing squad while he - the real deal - goes to a nearby power plant. There, using his natural affinity to electricity, he will coincidentally zap one of the generators. In doing so, the power here will, surprisingly, cut off, deactivating your bindings in the process. Now, this is where you come in. When you are freed, your only focus is on escaping. There will be no power, meaning most of the guards will be focused on containing the other super-powered criminals in here. I have two rules for you during your escape. Number 1: Do not kill anybody. And Number 2: Don't break anything."
Shadic took a breath, finally finishing his plan. "While you're escaping, I - the clone - will disperse and Shadic will be off unscathed. Got it? Do I need to repeat anything or something?"
“Ugh, fine." Reku said, reluctantly agreeing with Shadic’s plan and his terms. While he did not to run away from law enforcement should they confront him. Out of respect for Shadic however, he agreed to be less aggressive. However, he did keep in mind the fact that he said he couldn’t kill them. While Reku knew what his friend meant, he still took advantage of the loopholes. ”Wait, are you sure they’ll stop just because ONE guy isn’t prepared?"
"It's a, uh," He paused for a second, trying to think of the proper term, "It's like an honorary thing. Kind of like your last meal which you should be getting here shortly. They want to make sure all 10 of the guys get a chance to pop you. I dunno, but it'll work, trust me. Sound good?"
Just at that moment, when Shadic said 'sound good,' a guard walked by to check on the two, "Does what sound good?" He asked, being nosy as guards typically need to be.
Shadic's face went blank as he turned to the guard, "His last meal or whatever. I gave him some suggestions on what he should request and, to me, it sounds like a bomb plate, y'know."
The guard walked closer, "Yo, on some real shit though, you want a good meal, make sure you order some sushi. I dunno who prepares this last meal, but some guy the other day had some sushi, he offered me some, and - no lie - it was the best seafood I've ever had." His walkie talkie started speaking to him so he started walking away, "Ay, I gotta go, but if you need some ideas for food for your last meal, I'm your guy! Name's Anthony, just holla for me if you need me!"
Once the guard was out of earshot, Shadic went back to the plan, "We want to keep collateral to a minimum, for your sake. The government already kind of hates you, do not give them any fuel to make them hate you more. Aside from breaking out of death row. That's the only bad thing you get to do today."
