Dead branches cracked as pressured was applied to them when stepped on. Reku was walking through a forest that looked it had been wiped out for ages. The scenery was quite grim. Bones of deceased animals laid on the ground he walked on. There were even few vultures flying in the sky, circling Reku’s position as if they were already waiting for him to simply lie down and die. The forest he walked through was known as the Forest of Illusions. Legend has it that anyone who entered this forest would have to face their worst nightmares and all of their regrets. They either had to accept them, or die from the illusions themselves, as they would simply lead you to your death.
Of course Reku didn’t believe in the legend, but it still gave him the creeps. The setting definitely gave off that “ominous” effect. He wasn’t sure if he was overreacting or something was seriously wrong. Whatever it was, he was sure he could handle it. After all, if anyone had died here, they were just normal, ordinary, people. He thought that he was safe considering that he was a lot stronger than those weaklings. He continued, ignoring the vultures screeching in the sky above him.
As Reku continued on his journey through the forest, he saw something move swiftly by him. He immediately stopped and put up his guard. He tried to sense the energy of whoever or whatever it was, but he couldn’t pick up anything. He couldn’t see or hear anything else, so he cautiously continued on. ‘That was weird.’ He thought. Reku looked side to side as he did so, not wanting to be flanked by a possible enemy. As he turned back to face forward, he saw something horrifying. It had glowing white eyes and his headband and fighting gloves were glowing purple.
And it was sprinting towards him with a murderous glare.
Reku initially stood his ground, ready to fight as he sent back a similar glare. Though, something was wrong. It’s presence was intense. He could feel it’s dark nature from where he was standing. It was almost completely weighing him down. He could feel the pressure wasn’t just emitting from this entity, but he could feel it pulling from the darkness he kept within him. Reku’s widened when he realized what it actually was.
He took off in the opposite direction in flight. He flew as fast as he could, but saw that the entity was easily beginning to catch up on him. On foot. He exploded into Super Saiyan form, greatly increasing his speed. His yellow aura flared as he flew over multiple dead trees. He saw a huge fog manifesting ahead, only for the same entity to come out of it faster than anything he had experienced before. “What the? It was behind me!” He exclaimed before being kicked in the face, being sent in the other direction.
He hit the ground, hard. His body tore through branches and fallen tree trunks, ripping up his clothes a great deal. The entity landed on the ground in front of him as he ran towards him once again. Right before it was able to land an attack, Reku shot out a kick that hit it in the chest, sending it staggering backwards. Reku stood up and bursted into his Super Saiyan Umbra form, desperate as ever. He was about to turn around, but the entity was even faster now.
“NO. YOU WILL NEVER TAKE OVER!” Reku shouted as he threw two punches, but they were easily blocked and countered, the opponent kicking him into the air before flying upwards and smashing him back down to the ground. The Half-Saiyan grunted in pain as he made a crater with his body. The entity began slowly walking up to him. Reku hated it. He hated that it existed and that what it meant.
The entity was Reku himself.
It was the darkness in his soul incarnate. His worst nightmare was upon him and it was going to destroy him. It seemed like the legend about the forest was true, but that didn’t make it seem any less real. Reku got up, but was kneed in the gut. He doubled over, spitting out blood before being kicked in the temple and felt to the ground. Reku looked at the entity and he knew what he had to do, but he didn’t want to do it. Everything about it was just wrong. ‘I… I can’t… that…That can’t actually be-‘
The entity interrupted Reku’s thoughts by picking him up by the throat speaking to him telepathically. ‘You dare reject me?! I am your emotions made man. I am the embodiment of your will. DO NOT. DENY ME.’
‘NO. YOU ARE EVIL. YOU PREY ON THE DARKNESS LIKE A VAMPIRE. YOU TRY TO CONTROL ME AT EVERY TURN. I WILL NEVER LET YOU WIN!'
‘YOU LIE! I have always been with you. From the moment you’ve had your quarrel with Big Shot I was born. I’ve been growing inside you and you know it. You CANNOT continue to resist me. The harder you push, THE HARD I PUSH BACK.'
‘JUST LEAVE ME ALONE. I want NOTHING further to do with you.'
‘You cannot escape me. We are on the and the same! Two sides of the same coin that have yet to join together! When we fought Sonnelion we were separated. With our combined might we will be even stronger! Don’t you see? To accomplish our goal we must fight together! Resisting me for this long has made you weak surely you see that!'
‘...'
‘We will seek vengeance on everyone who has wronged us! We will conquer the universe together! I AM A PART OF YOU. ACCEPT ME.’
‘….'
“DO IT!"
‘….Tch.'
‘DO IT!!!'
’DAMMIT!!'
On the physical plane, the entity holding Reku by the throat turned into a gaseous form and entered his body. The pain was unbearable. He could feel a portion of himself merge with something else, transforming into one being. Reku fell on his knees as his dark ki aura manifested, but it was more intense than ever before. His power was growing as his body began to change. An enormous weight was lifted off of his shoulders. His body began to change. His hair turned red and his eyes did as well. His teeth became sharper and even his go changed color, turning purple. A red headband made purely out of dark ki was created and flowed in the air. Dark ki manifested around his heart to such a degree that even his flesh slowly transformed, seemingly rotting. Reku got up slowly, surging with power.
