Reku shook his head in disappointment. "That just sounds stupid. Why would anyone even bother to-" He quickly shut himself up as the guard appeared. Shadic took control of the situation doing all of the talking. Reku was glad he did so, as he wasn’t good at that sort of thing. The guard soon left, and it was once again just Shadic and Reku in the area. ”Oh please, either way they’ll be after me even more. I don’t see what the big deal is."
"Don't mess up my plan, okay? I been thinking of this for days while watching a bunch of prison break movies. This is going to work!" Shadic knew his plan would work regardless of what Reku did, assuming he made an effort to escape, but it was the principal. You can't escape a prison and just go willy nilly killing everybody. These were innocent people, for the most part, and Shadic wanted to make sure they were safe.
He thought for a second before asking, "Any more questions? Remember, there is no such thing as a stupid question. Unless it actually is stupid, but I think that's implied."
Reku couldn’t help but lose a little confidence in Shadic’s plan once he began talking to about seeing movies and tv shows about it. Unfortunately, he couldn’t say anything because it was the only plan they had. “I guess I have no further questions, just make sure you don’t die. And I mean you, specifically, since you’re a clone." He replied. This better work. He thought.
Shadic got to his feet and slid the chair back in place, the scraping of the legs echoing around the room. "Alrighty then, sounds like a plan. I won't die, I have no real way of doing so, just make sure you stick to the plan. It'll be a piece of cake," He started walking away, the same guard who escorted him in appearing to help escort him out, "See ya in about an hour and a half! Have fun!" He indirectly told Reku how much time he had left before the big event.
The guard laughed, "You guys have a good talk?"
"Oh yeah, one of our best by far," Shadic responded with a voice feigning sadness.
"Hey, don't worry. You might see him in death- Nevermind," The guard said, straightening his face.
The hybrid's brow rose in curiosity, "Why not?"
"Oh, you know," the guard began, "He's probably going to Hell and, if you're as special as the newly elected councilman says you are, you're going to Heaven."
Shadic laughed, knowing the guard was likely not wrong. They continued talking as they walked out of the prisoner holding area.
Reku sat around for what seemed like an eternity, not even bothering to fall asleep. He could think of a few ways this could go wrong. The clone might die before it could do its job, Shadic could be wrong and they would fire on him anyway regardless of how many people they had, Reku might kill people and start an all out war the streets, etc. He knew he had to trust Shadic, but as far as he could remember, he’s never done anything like this before. As Reku continued to think pessimistically, he heard a few knocks on the door. He sat up, looking at the warden with several guards with him. They were all heavily armed. The door opened and the guards moved in, bringing Reku up to his feet.
In the hour and a half between their meeting, Shadic was hard at work making sure everything was set up properly. The clone was hidden in a janitor's closet, waiting for his signal to swap places with the real deal. Meanwhile, Shadic was with the rest of the firing squad preparing for the execution. All 10 wore the uniform of a prison guard, nothing special, and each one was given a MP5 machine gun to fire away on the signal. A few of the guys were mentally preparing themselves to kill somebody, saying how he was an evil person because of what he did, trying to justify what they were about to do.
Unlike the rest of the squad, Shadic was just sitting down waiting for 1:00 to roll around. The commanding officer walked over to Shadic, "You sure you want to do this? If you want to back out I don't blame you. These guys have had years of training to shoot somebody, you're just a regular person."
"No, no, I know I want to do this. Trust me," The commander shrugged and walked away, leaving Shadic to his thoughts.
Reku walked down the hall with the guards as they escorted to his execution. The doors in front opened as they got closer due to the sensors. The bright sun hit his face hard, his eyes burning slightly as they tried to adjust to the light. He saw a van ahead, the driver opening the side door as the group approached. Reku was pushed inside and sat down on the middle of the bench that lay inside. The other guards sat around him, some of them acting nervous. The hybrid couldn’t help but smirk upon discovering this. Even when I’m restrained, they still fear me. He thought. The door closed and the driver got behind the steering wheel. It wasn’t long before the van started down the road, heading for the location.
The commanding officer called the whole squad to attention, making sure each was standing tall ready for orders. He shouted, "We aren't here for some fun little target pratice or some pissing match! In approximately 10 minutes, on national television, you all are going to fire upon one of the most dangerous criminals this world has ever seen. He is not only a threat to our current councilmen and president, but he is also a threat to modern society. We all saw what these unstoppable aliens did to South City just the other day. After today, Earth will be void of another one of these evil beings. So when you shoot, shoot with a purpose."
A lot of the guards agreed with what the commander had to say, and while Shadic gave a nod, he knew the speech wasn't going to matter in the long run. Reku was not dying today, at least not by way of firing squad. Now they just needed the man of the hour to finally arrive.
The driver saw the building up ahead and gave a warning. “Hey, we’re here. There’s a lot of press out there though, geez.” He added, stopping the car. Being that there was no way he could make it through the crowd, he knew that they just had to walk. He opened the back of the van and two soldiers stepped out before they brought out Reku. four more soldiers came out behind him and surrounded him to protect him from the crowd. As they worked their way through, The half-saiyan was confronted with flashes of light from the cameras and failed attempts at interviews. This much to see a man die? He thought, realizing the size of the crowd. This world is more fucked up than I thought.
The ten man squad lined up and began marching out to the execution site. A small crowd had gathered to watch, from behind the safety of a bulletproof window to protect against ricochet. Shadic had never watched an execution, mostly because he had no real reason to. Why would somebody want to watch somebody die? Especially Reku, who didn't do anything besides try to assassinate Skylar. Unless there was another event that took place that the hybrid was unaware of, which was entirely possible.
The men were all in position and waiting on the criminal to get in position. While the men were too busy focused on calming their own nerves, Shadic took advantage of their distracted minds to remove a critical part of his weapon. A single piece of the firing mechanism, smaller than a penny, but without it the gun could not shoot. As they were waiting, he ran through the scenario in his mind over and over again. Shadic was well aware that he needed to say something before the commander said fire, and since he was pretty sure it went by a 'ready, aim, fire,' system, he would definitely have time. The plan was finally about to get put to the test.
