Shadic knew best. That's why he's so strong! Sythius was absolutely useless in the fight against the Terrorist. The amazing hero exposed him to wonderful ideas like optimism, training, and true heroism. In such a short (awkward, weird, sidetracked) conversation, Sythius saw the light! The idea that you should fight people on your level was unfathomable and frightening! Bashing the brains out of (mostly figurative) babies were comfortable and safe! He knew in his heart that fighting real enemies was a wise decision, but that would make him vulnerable. Ever since the day he was born the idea that vulnerability means death was beaten into his head. What he'd been doing was clearly not working and he really wanted to become like Shadic, but this change was horrifying!
Damn, something about interrogating failed Crane students really made Sythius think about how he got in West City. Their moans were musical, meditative even. No trance could keep our hero from his noble duty forever, however. There was only so much he could learn while he wasn't paying attention.
"P-p-please d-don't hurt me!" Victim 16 stammered. Victim 16 was at 4k. For a Shen student, that seemed pretty powerful. Granted, Sythius didn't really know who 'Shen' was, other than the fact that he is an evil Crane Master. Besides, Sythius had been torturing criminals all day, and it was getting hard to find people who were weak. How else was he going to learn where the real bad guys were? It's not like he could look in the mirror or anything.
"Where are they?!" Sythius roar-demanded an answer.
"Where is who? I don't kno-" Sythius made another orifice on this poor, poor man's chest. His tail was getting a bloodjob!
"I need to fight someone stronger than me!" Sythius was growing irate. He was having a nice time and this asshat was ruining it!
"M-maybe (oh God help me) I know (death gurgle) someone who you can (shallow breathing) fight..." Every few words Victim 16 stopped to make various different grunts, noises, and prayers. Forr a second a smirk formed on his face, but it was quickly replaced by pure agony when Sythius did more unspeakable things to him.
"There's a guy (please no more) hiding in Yunzabit Heights! He's... (whispering) almost as strong as you!" the man gave him directions, and Sythius relinquished his grip on him. No more bloodjob for Sythius.
Sythius traveled for what seemed like forever, before finally reaching Yunzabit Heights. He couldn't sense any power level, and so he spent a really long time searching for them. By time he realized that a massive 40k powerlevel was running coming at him, it was too late to run away. 'Shadic would want me to face this guy with bravery!' he thought, and rocketed towards the ki signature.
His aura burst, sending him to a halt in front of a comely figure. To his surprise, this guy was actually a graying woman, and was dressed in some kind of outfit with an 'M' splayed out over it.
"I am Matriarch, and you're brutality will be put to an end here!" she did a pose, and a giant square of ki formed in front of her. It had a large heart on it's face. "Repent or perish!" she said, firing this strange blast at Sythius.
Our icon of heroism was too slow. The square hit him right in the chest, but he didn't feel any pain. A cube encased him all of a sudden. All sides had the same heart on it. He was about to belittle his villainous adversary when he realized that something was very wrong! It... it was the same feeling he had when he was born! Love, compassion, and safety vibrated through out his soul. It was pure good... but unlike last time, it burned him very badly. He began to screech in torment.
"Repent, dear Sythius, and I'll set you free!"
How the hell did she know his name, and why did he have to repent? Everything he did was to crush evil and to protect himself.
"Your violence has harmed untold numbers of people... you don't have to be scared! I can show you the way. Just like I did with Ezekiel!" She smiled, and Sythius could feel her genuine caring for him... but why was she hurting him? He knew as soon as she said the name that Ezekiel was the last person he tortured. All the pain Ezekiel was in flashed through Sythius' spirit, and his wounds became like Ezekiel's. One second was all it took. The Councilman collapsed onto the floor of the cube. Immediately all of his pain disappeared.
The Matriarch floated over to him, and reached out to him. When her hand pushed through the ki that made the cube, it formed around her hand as a kind of shield. Her hand graced the broken soul's face. She looked into his eyes and gave him one last chance.
"Repent or perish, Sythius. It's that simple. I can help you, but ultimately the ball's in your court."
Sythius knew he was wrong... but he just couldn't admit defeat. In his heart, he still believed that all the terrible things he did was necessary. The world was cold and evil, and he had to become like the world in order to protect himself.
"Sythius, with great regret, I cast you out."
Her eyes began to water, but her face became one of pure anger. The previously comfortable cage he was trapped in turned violent red, and his body became like Ezekiel's. Then Victim 15's and 14's. Before a second had past he had every injury he'd ever inflicted on another.
The Matriarch blew a ki bubble at him, and when it hit him the Matriarch's last words played in his mind... overshadowing every thought, emotion, or sensation he had."Know this. You don't want to save South City. You don't want Shadic's approval. You're just a child that's worried about stranger danger."
Rays of love pierced his soul and completely incinerated his body. The Lizard was dead.
His soul was trapped in this cube. The Matriarch looked at the black thing, and began to sob. Sending them to King Yemma was always the worst part.
The cube shot upward. Not upward in a 'into outerspace' way, but 'up' in the direction she had always sent the souls of the damned to. They always ended up in King Yamma's line.
Not this one.
The cube of light sparkled for a second, then fizzled out. The cube was gone, and Sythius' unconsious soul was free.
"What? What happened to my cube?" she spat in a mixture of rage and shocked. "Curse you!" venom filled saliva splashed into the soul. The Matriarch scolded herself quietly. That was unbecoming of an agent of love. The soul flashed white, then yellow, then black, before going back to green. The Matriarch took this as a sign that she hurt poor Sythius' feelings. Just because he was most likely damned didn't mean she should help him feel bad.
Sythius' soul flashed black, then yellow, than white, and finally green once more. The Matriarch took this to mean Sythius was happy again. "Now, I have to ask you again mister. What did you do with my cube?" She wagged her finger at him, completely missing that the soul had grown.
Sythius' soul flashed again, and a sphere of iridescent ki emanated from it, encircling it. It was now much larger than Sythius.
"Soul, tell me. What are you doing?" she gave him a worried look. Secretly she was amazed, but it was unprofessional to let this strange alien know that.
Pure green ki formed long tentacles. They wrapped around him and branched out into limbs before finally hardening into greenish bone. Strangely, in place of joints he still had pure iridescent ki spheres. Flesh grew around the body, before scales did. The Matriarch looked at him in unfettered amazement. His power spiked drastically, and he looked much different. His scales were more uniform, sharp, and pronounced. She didn't know why, but he looked more mature.
The new Sythius gave the Matriarch a solemn look. His eyes were much more focused. His body langauge was brave and confident. He was a ruler and he knew it. The Matriarch sensed his power level, backing away slowly.
"You... you came back? How? I-Is that allowed?" she stuttered slightly. The Matron of Justice closed her eyes and prayed. "King Yemma, is that allowed?" she stayed quiet for a whole minute, but got no answer. "Why? Why are you still here?"
Sythius looked at her, as grim as he had been since he was ressurected. He didn't know the answers to any of that, but he could sense his own power level. He was safe once again.
"Do we have to do this?" his voice was calm, hiding his inner confusion and sadness. The Matriarch stopped in her tracks. "Do we have to fight? I've have enough fighting today. Too much blood. I just want to go home," he said. His voice was deeper, smoother, and more human.
The Matriarch was too weak to fight him. Scanning his mind, she sensed a hint of regret. She lost. Her cube was broken, and maybe he was repenting? Regardless, she couldn't just... let him leave.
"This is beneath you," Sythius said. He felt more whole. He felt like he had crossed a barrier that he didn't know he had. He could see with his new eyes that she was at least somewhat correct.
"I'm leaving. Don't follow me," Sythius blasted off in the direction of South City. He certainly wasn't good, but he'd been shown the errors of his ways. He knew he could protect himself better now.
